In the second quarter of this year, the number of applications for bankruptcy of companies in the countries of the European Union (EU) increased to a record level.
ABC.AZ reports, citing the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), which published data on the bankruptcy of companies for the second quarter of 2023, that the number of company bankruptcies in the EU countries over the period increased by 8.4% compared to the previous quarter, reaching the highest level since 2015.
In the second quarter, corporate bankruptcies in all economic sectors increased compared to the previous quarter. The largest increase in the number of bankruptcies in the spheres of activity - 23.9% - was in the sphere of housing construction and catering, 15.2% in transport and warehousing and 10.1% in education, healthcare and social activities.
The countries with the highest number of bankruptcies compared to the previous quarter were Hungary (40.8%), Latvia (24.8%) and Estonia (24.6%).
