June 23, Fineko/abc.az. Micron Technology (U.S.) is to construct an assembly and testing complex for DRAM and NAND memory chips in Gujarat, India.
ABC.AZ reports that the construction of the plant will be carried out in two stages. The 1st phase will begin this year and by the end of 2024 it is planned to put into operation a sterile workshop with an area of more than 46,000 m2. Micron expects that the 2nd phase of the project will begin after 2025.
The company will invest up to $825 million in the first two stages and create up to 5,000 jobs in its state in the next few years.
The plant is expected to provide up to 20,000 new jobs in total. As part of the government's program to support semiconductor companies, the Indian authorities will cover 50% of the total cost of the project. Another 20% will be covered by Gujarat investments. According to estimates, the total cost of the project, which includes two phases of construction, will be up to $2.75 bn.
This is the first such Micron project in India.
