China intends to limit use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

June 12, Fineko/abc.az. The Cybersecurity Department of China has published a bill that provides for limiting the use of small-range Internet networks by citizens.

ABC.AZ reports that among them are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Air Drop and similar wireless communication and file transfer technologies between devices.

The bill obliges service providers to implement systems for monitoring data circulating through such networks and to prevent the distribution of illegal content. Users "should not use the service to publish or forward illegal information, should take measures to prevent the production, copying or dissemination of undesirable information and counteract it," and in case of receiving such information, they are advised to contact the competent authorities.

In addition, the bill envisages introduction of a ban on the automatic connection of devices to networks, as well as mandatory provision of personal data of device owners to network operators at each connection.

Thus, the Chinese authorities actually want to establish total control over wireless Internet networks. This step was a reaction to the autumn mass protests against coronavirus restrictions, during which citizens actively shared videos and information among themselves via AirDrop and Bluetooth.
