Azerbaijan increased electricity production by 7.7%

April 12, Fineko/abc.az. In the 1st quarter of 2023, electricity production in Azerbaijan grew by 7.7% (against Q1 of 2022) up to 7.756 bn kWh, exports – 1.238 bn kWh and imports 31.3 million kWh.

ABC.AZ reports that Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov wrote about this on his Twitter account.

In the 1st quarter, 7.387 bn kWh were generated at thermal power plants (95% of the total generation), 368.8 million kWh from renewable energy sources (5%).

In the structure of renewable energy, 277.9 million kWh accounted for hydroelectric power plants, 15.5 million kWh for wind power plants, 13.4 million kWh for solar power plants and 62 million kWh for a solid waste processing plant.

Shahbazov stressed that for Jan-Mar 2023, electricity exports from Azerbaijan amounted to 1.238 bn kWh (+2.4-fold versus Q1 of 2022), imports - 31.3 million kWh (+2%).

In 2022, electricity production in Azerbaijan totaled 28.988 bn kWh (an increase of 4%). At that, electricity exports from Azerbaijan amounted to 3.3 bn kWh (a rise of 79.5%), imports - 137.1 million kWh (decline of 9.6%).
