July 26, Fineko/abc.az. Starting from today, the residents of Lisbon aged 65 and older will be able to use public transport for free.

ABC.AZ reports that this decision was made by the Mayor's Office of Lisbon.

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas says that the measure is part of the goals of environmental sustainability, the fight against climate change.

Moedas added that Lisbon is the first large European capital to adopt this measure.

Free transportation for young people aged 13 to 23 will be offered in September.

On 21 April 2022, the Lisbon City Council unanimously approved a proposal for free public transport in the city with validity period until 31 December 2025.
