Intel CEO Sounds Alarm on Rapid Surge of Low-Cost Chinese AI Models

October 12, Fineko/abc.az. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan stated on Monday during a DBS conference panel in Singapore that Chinese frontier AI models run at lower token costs and their market adoption has been "very fast".

Tan noted that open-weight Chinese models, such as DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM, deliver performance that is "good enough" for various commercial use cases, challenging the belief that only high-cost systems will dominate.

"I'm a strong believer in open source; that's the best way to drive efficiency," Tan said, adding that end-user markets will ultimately determine which models best serve specific applications. He also predicted that quantum computing could become mainstream within the next three to five years.
