June 9, Fineko/abc.az. The trend of growth of banking sector's deposit portfolio is ongoing.

ABC.AZ reports that Zakir Nuriyev, the chairman of the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan (ABA), made the relevant statement at the X International Finance and Banking Summit held in Baku.

He noted that in general, the deposit portfolio exceeded 37.8 billion manats, a rise of 2.8% was recorded compared to last year:

"At the same time, deposits of individuals grew at a faster pace - having increased by 18.7%, they reached 17.3 billion manats. This indicator shows that public confidence in the banking system remains, and the resource base of banks is further strengthened. One of the positive trends is a decline in the level of dollarization. The level of dollarization in the deposit portfolio decreased to 35.7%, and on deposits - to 30.2%. It also demonstrates an increase in confidence in both the national currency and the banking sector."

He added that banks' capital indicators also remain an important indicator of sustainability:

"The fact that the capital reached 7.7 billion manats and showed an increase of 9.7% indicates that the capital base and financial stability of the banking sector are further strengthening."
