February 19, Fineko/abc.az. EBay has announced the acquisition of trendy online marketplace Depop from Etsy for almost $1.2 billion and reported projected revenue for the 1st quarter above Wall Street expectations. After the news, EBay shares rose more than by 7% in the U.S. postmarket.
ABC.AZ reports that Depop, which has approximately 7 million customers (90% under the age of 34), will develop as a separate brand and complement EBay's fashion business with annual sales of around $10 billion. The deal is expected in the 2nd quarter.
EBay also reported strong quarterly results, with fourth-quarter earnings of $1.41 per share on revenue of $3 billion, exceeding analysts' forecasts. Gross sales on the platform in the 1st quarter are projected at $21.5–21.9 billion, with revenue of $3-3.05 billion, above average analyst estimates.
