December 17, Fineko/abc.az. In recent years, there has been a downward trend in the number of animals in Azerbaijan.
ABC.AZ reports that Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov said this during a public discussion in Baku on the topic "Current problems of milk and meat production and assessment of the impact on food safety".
"In 2024, 2.5 million heads of cattle and 6.9 million heads of small cattle were registered across the country, which means a decrease of 6% and 11%, respectively, over the past three years. The current situation requires an increase in labor productivity and a deepening of structural reforms," he said.
According to the minister, despite the fact that the import of livestock products still dominates the foreign trade balance, a positive trend is emerging in the export direction: "In the first 11 months of 2025, egg exports increased by 34.9% and reached $10.6 million. Among the main reasons for dependence on imports, expansion of consumption amid population growth, low productivity and limited access of small farms to processing and market infrastructure."
