Nissan to lay off close to 20,000 employees

May 12, Fineko/abc.az. Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. plans to lay off about 20,000 employees, or 15% of the global staff, as part of business restructuring.

ABC.AZ reports that in November, the company announced the layoff of 9,000 people.

Now Nissan intends to reduce nearly 11,000 more employees.

Nissan representatives did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment.

Earlier, the company released a forecast according to which its loss in the last fiscal year, which ended in March, could reach 750 billion yens ($5.1 billion). The annual financial statements will be published on May 13.

Nissan shares rose 0.7% on Monday. Since the beginning of the year, company's capitalization has fallen by 27.8%.
