A water dam built between Iran and Azerbaijan to be put into operation in near future

November 14, Fineko/abc.az. The Maiden Tower water dam is to be opened between Iran and Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports that Yusif Gafarzade, the head of the Regional Water Resources Department of the province of East Azerbaijan, said about this.

He noted that the Maiden Tower checkpoint, located at Iran-Azerbaijan border checkpoint, will be completed and put into operation within 2 months.

"Unofficial operation will begin next month in order to prepare for the opening of this water dam, the largest between Iran and Azerbaijan," Gafarzade added.

He pointed out that with the construction of the Maiden Tower dam on the Araz River, it will be possible to deliver 2 bcm of water, and here both countries have a 50% share.

The construction of the dam began in 2005.
