September 20, Fineko/abc.az. Swedish automaker Volvo Car intends to stop producing diesel-powered cars by early 2024 as part of company's long-term environmental strategy, ABC.AZ reports with reference to Volvo Car’s press release.

Earlier, Volvo Car stated that by 2030 they plan to abandon the production of all cars with internal combustion engine and focus on electric cars. In connection with this decision, last year the company stopped development of internal combustion engines and sold its stake in joint venture Aurobay, which was engaged in their production.

In 2022, the number of cars sold by the manufacturer reached 615,121 vehicles, while 8.8% of total sales accounted for diesel cars and 33% for hybrids and electric cars.

"Since then, sales of chargeable cars have grown significantly. Our decision to completely abandon diesel engines by the beginning of 2024 reflects the rapid changes affecting the automotive industry and consumer demand," the company stressed.
