May 19, Fineko/abc.az. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to close its Baku office by the end of June 2023.

ABC.AZ that this is stated in the letter of the Department of the Middle East & Central Asia to the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan.

The reason for this decision is that Azerbaijan has strong economy and financial resources, as well as the fact that program cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IMF is not expected in the near future.

The letter notes that the closure of the office will not weaken the IMF's ties with Azerbaijan, will organize regular missions to discuss economic and financial policy regarding the development strategy of Azerbaijan, and will provide technical assistance if necessary.
