9% of banks in Turkiye operate on principles of Islamic banking

March 2, Fineko/abc.az. Currently, Islamic banking holds a 9% share in the Turkish banking system.

ABC.AZ reports that Fatma Chinar, international representative of the Union of Banks of Turkiye, stated about this at conference "Prospects for the development of alternative financial markets in Azerbaijan" in Baku.

She added that Islamic banking in Turkiye began in 1994. Currently, Turkiye is numbering six banks operating on Islamic principles, and two more new banks are expected to open.

Fatma Chinar said that the sector is currently developing, but new innovative tools are needed here.

"Turkiye has 11 stakeholders in this area, including a large training center," the expert said.
