February 16, Fineko/abc.az. The ten largest Russian banks by assets in 2022 showed a loss of 197 bn rubles ($2.63 bn), the profit of other players in the sector amounted to 400 bn rubles.
ABC.AZ reports that in 2021, Russian banks from the top 10 earned 1.9 trillion rubles - 83% of the total profit of all credit institutions in the country (2.2 trillion rubles).
Expert RA agency’s analysts explain the significant decline in bank profits by the effect of Western sanctions, including direct restrictions on a number of financial institutions, as well as their isolation from the global economy.
According to the forecast of Expert RA, in 2023 banks will show profit of 1.3–1.5 trillion rubles, which corresponds to the indicators of 2020.
At that, a negative scenario is not excluded, in which bank revenues will continue to fall due to reduction in the volume of cross-border transfers, and the volume of problem debts will increase. In such conditions, the annual profit of the sector may amount to 600-800 bn rubles.
