November 23, Fineko/abc.az. In six out of the nine countries in which Russian payment system Mir operated, banks refused to support it amid the threat of sanctions from the U.S.

ABC.AZ reports that Bloomberg analysts consider the current situation to be a "collapse" and failure of Russia's attempt to create its own alternative to Visa and Mastercard under conditions of financial isolation.

It is noted that the Bank of Russia was surprised by the refusal of "friendly" states to cooperate with Mir system. Now, according to the agency, the Central Bank is looking for another alternative.

Over the past few months, banks in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Vietnam have stopped servicing transactions through Mir. A range of other countries, in particular Sri Lanka, refused to work with Mir at the negotiation stage due to the risk of falling under secondary US sanctions. Turkey offered to create a new, joint payment system.
