Hormuz Crisis Drives Fertilizer Price Surge — DAP Rises 28%

17:16 - 1.10.2026

October 1, Fineko/abc.az. Escalating military conflicts in the Middle East and supply chain disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have triggered a severe supply crunch in the global fertilizer market. With nearly one-third of global fertilizer trade passing through the now virtually blocked strait, elevated energy and production costs pushed Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) prices up 28.4% to $802.5 per ton over the first 9 months of the year (up from $625 at year-end 2025).

The resulting surge in input and energy costs directly impacted agricultural commodities, driving corn prices up by 13.3% and soybean prices by 22.6% over the same period.
