Eurozone Private Sector Activity Hits Three-Year High as PMI Surges to 53.1

14:39 - 23.09.2026

September 23, Fineko/abc.az. Eurozone private sector output expanded at its fastest pace in over three years in September, driven by an unexpected surge in the services sector.

The S&P Global Composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose to 53.1 from 52.0 in August, comfortably beating consensus estimates of 51.7. Economists highlighted that the manufacturing sector—led by Germany—is experiencing its strongest growth in four years, buoyed by increased spending on artificial intelligence and defense.

The bloc’s major economies both topped market expectations. Germany’s Composite PMI advanced from 51.8 to 53.8, marking its highest level since October 2025. Meanwhile, France’s Composite PMI jumped from 48.5 to 51.2, returning to expansion territory and registering its strongest growth rate in more than two years.
