ECB Warns Energy Price Shock Will Sustain Eurozone Inflation Through 2027

11:17 - 22.09.2026

September 22, Fineko/abc.az. European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Economist Philip Lane warned that a second wave of rising oil and gas prices will keep Eurozone inflation elevated longer than previously expected.

The ECB now projects inflation to converge toward its 2% target only by mid-2027.

Eurozone inflation is expected to reach nearly 4% in the coming months, averaging 3% this year and 2.5% in 2027. Following a second rate hike earlier this month triggered by Middle East energy disruptions, ECB officials are laying the groundwork for a potential 25-basis-point rate increase in October.
