September 10, Fineko/abc.az. Russia could secure control over up to 36% of global uranium production over the next 15 years, posing a significant risk to Western energy security amid rising demand for new nuclear power plants, the Financial Times reported citing estimates by the Centre for Strategic Advantage (CSA).

While Russia directly produced around 5% of the world's uranium in 2024, its total market share—including controlled foreign mines in Tanzania, Namibia, and Niger—already accounts for nearly a quarter of global output. CSA analyst Gareth Haywood warned that by 2040, Western markets could face a dependency on Russian uranium comparable to the 2022 Russian oil and gas crisis.
