September 9, Fineko/abc.az. Speaking at the CICA International Port Conference in Baku, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), announced that phase two of the Baku Port expansion is underway to strengthen the country's Eurasian logistics role.
The project aims to increase annual cargo throughput by an additional 10 million tons beyond its current 15 million-ton capacity, while pushing container handling capacity to 300,000 TEU by the end of 2027.
Rustamov highlighted that under President Ilham Aliyev's strategic vision, integrating Baku Port and ADY under a unified management framework eliminated operational barriers between maritime and rail transport. Addressing regional challenges, he emphasized the need for digital corridors, streamlined border crossings, and tighter port coordination to counter Caspian Sea water level drops and global trade disruptions.
