Eurozone Producer Prices Rise Above Expectations Driven by Energy Costs

September 3, Fineko/abc.az. According to data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, the Producer Price Index (PPI) in the Eurozone rose by 1.6% month-on-month and 5.8% year-on-year in July. Market analysts had expected a more moderate monthly increase of 1.2%.

Across the entire European Union, producer prices advanced by 1.4% on a monthly basis and 5.6% compared to July of the previous year. The upward movement was largely driven by the energy sector, where prices jumped by 5.6%.

Among EU member states, the highest monthly increases were recorded in Ireland (+4.3%), Spain (+3.0%), and Italy (+3.0%). On an annual basis, Ireland (+14.8%), Lithuania (+12.9%), and Bulgaria (+12.5%) saw the steepest rises, whereas Luxembourg registered a decline of 7.3%.
