September 1, Fineko/abc.az. Eurozone annual inflation accelerated to 3.3% in August, up from 2.9% in July and reaching its highest level since September 2023.
According to Eurostat, energy prices were the primary driver of the surge, rising 14.3% year-on-year. Core inflation unexpectedly cooled to 2.4%, while services inflation dropped to 3.0%, and unemployment stood at 6.4%.
The sharp rise in headline inflation has fully priced in a quarter-point rate hike by the European Central Bank (ECB) at its upcoming meeting on September 10. Driven by geopolitical tensions and resilient regional economic performance, markets anticipate further monetary tightening as inflation remains well above the central bank’s 2% target.
