August 25, Fineko/abc.az. According to an official statement by the Canadian government, retaliatory tariffs targeting over 700 products imported from the United States will take effect on September 8.

The decision follows the implementation of new 50% US tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports and the breakdown of trade negotiations, marking a new crisis point in bilateral relations. Under the new decision, custom duty rates of 50% will apply to steel, aluminum, furniture, and clothing sectors; 25% to cheese, home appliances, and seafood; and 15% to electronics and hand tools.

Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne stated that counter-measures aim to safeguard the core pillars of the Canadian economy. In this context, the government announced a C$7.5 billion incentive package to provide financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises, workers, and farmers.
