U.S. 30-Year Treasury Yield Hits Quarter-Century High Above 5.21%

11:46 - 14.08.2026

August 14, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. government issued 30-year Treasury bonds at their highest interest rate in a quarter-century, signaling that investors are demanding elevated returns to fund the nation's expanding budget deficit.

Thursday's $25 billion auction stopped at a yield of 5.216%, the highest level since 2001. This followed a 10-year note sale a day earlier that marked the highest borrowing costs for that maturity since 2007.

Following years of elevated inflation and government spending, higher sovereign financing costs are spilling over into the broader economy. With persistent deficits, sticky inflation concerns, and the Fed no longer acting as a dominant buyer, investors continue to price in higher risk premiums, which analysts warn could keep long-term yields elevated above the 5% mark.
