July 9, Fineko/abc.az. The Department of Highways of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia has announced an international tender procedure for the replacement of highways connecting the country with Azerbaijan and Armenia with new four-lane roads.
The project with total cost of 250 million euros will be financed by a loan from the European Investment Bank.
The new highways will start in the city of Rustavi and will be constructed in the directions of Krasny Bridge and Sadakhlo. According to the tender announced for the project, the construction of four-lane roads with total length of 61.3 km is envisaged.
Currently, the highways connecting Georgia with Azerbaijan and Armenia are two-lane and mostly pass through densely populated areas. The new roads will have high capacity and will bypass densely populated areas.
Tender bids from companies for the lots will be accepted until August 14, 2026.
