March 10, Fineko/abc.az. The founders of BioNTech SE, Ugur Shahin and Ozlem Tyurechi, will leave the company by the end of the year to create a new biotech firm specializing in messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, the basis of the Covid-19 vaccine.

ABC.AZ reports that according to Bloomberg, BioNTech will finance the project by transferring part of the rights and technologies of mRNA in exchange for a minority stake and future royalties.

After the announcement of the founders' departure, company's depositary receipts fell by 15%. The new company will be the third biotechnological project of Shahin and Tyurecha after Ganymed Pharmaceuticals (2001) and BioNTech (2008).
