Apple acquires Israeli startup Q. ai for $1.6 bn

February 2, Fineko/abc.az. Apple has announced the purchase of Israeli company Q. ai, which develops artificial intelligence technologies for audio and wearable devices.

ABC.AZ informs, referring to Reuters, that the deal amounted to approx. $1.6 bn, and startup's entire staff of 100 employees, including the founders, is moving to Apple.

The acquisition will strengthen Apple's AI direction in the wearable segment and continue to develop functions such as simultaneous translation in AirPods. Q. ai is known for its developments in speech recognition based on micro-movements of facial muscles, which opens up opportunities for analyzing user's physiological parameters and controlling facial expressions on the gadget.
