EU not to be able to stop importing meat from South America in 2026

December 30, Fineko/abc.az. Meat production in the EU in 2026 will decrease to 6.42 million tons, the lowest in 25 years, predicts the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

ABC.AZ informs that according to the forecast, the EU will be forced to import 405,000 tons of meat, slightly less than in 2025.

In 2025, the EU countries purchased approx. 425,000 tons of beef (8.7% more than in 2024). Imports have come close to the peak of 2019.

Fattened cattle in the EU at the end of November became 30% more expensive than a year earlier, reaching $8.30 per kg of live weight. Live calves have risen in price by 50% in 12 months, up to $5.10 per kg.
