Wave of price appreciation hits Spain: Rising prices impoverish population

12:19 - 18.11.2025

November 18, Fineko/abc.az. Rising food and housing prices are increasing the financial pressure upon Spanish families and threatening to impoverish the population, EL PAÍS reports.

ABC.AZ informs that the situation is worsened by economic factors: an outbreak of avian flu led to the slaughter of 2.7 million chickens and an increase in egg prices by 22.5% per year. Other products, such as beef, coffee, and fruits, continue to rise in price.

Households are also facing a sharp increase in bills: electricity has risen in price by 18.7%, garbage collection — by 30.3%. Inflation grew from 2% to 3.1%.

The housing crisis and stagnation in real wages are exacerbating the situation: despite the growth in nominal incomes, purchasing power remains below the level of 2020.
