October 21, Fineko/abc.az. In response to growth of container traffic along the route, KMTF, a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna, and Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) signed an agreement on the construction of container ships. Following the tender, the project will be implemented at the Baku Shipyard, which is part of AZCON Holding.
ABC.AZ reports, referring to company Samruk-Kazyna, this became known during the meeting of the head of Samruk-Kazyna, Nurlan Zhakupov, with the Minister of Digital Development & Transport of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AZCON Rashad Nabiyev.
"It is planned to build two container ships by 2027, which will be transferred to the joint venture of KMTF and ADP–CIMS," Samruk-Kazyna informs.
The meeting focused on the development of the Trans-Caspian route and deepening partnership in the transport and logistics sector.
It was noted that last year the rail freight turnover along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route reached a historic maximum of 4.5 million tons, while the potential for exporting Kazakhstani goods is estimated at 10 million tons per year.
The parties also discussed progress of the project for the construction of a fiber-optic communication line under the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The operators are Kazakhtelecom and Azertelecom.
