October 3, Fineko/abc.az. Every fifth piece of jewelry in Russia may turn out to be a fake - experts estimate the proportion of counterfeit at 15-20% (around 56 bn rubles a year). Buyers often overpay for gold-plated products passed off as gold, receive low-grade rings instead of the declared 585th or synthetic stones disguised as natural ones.
ABC.AZ informs that the Ministry of Finance proposes new rules: starting from March 1, 2026, stores are required to post authentication notices, indicate unique numbers and QR codes; labels indicating the metal, weight and batch are introduced for coins. The market costs are estimated at 300 million – 3 billion rubles. Experts believe the measures can reduce proportion of fakes 2-3-fold, but business fears an increase in the administrative burden.
