WHO calls on all countries of world to raise prices for alcohol, cigarettes and sweets

July 3, Fineko/abc.az. The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on all countries to raise the prices of alcohol, cigarettes and sugary carbonated drinks by at least 50% by 2035 through health taxes, ABC.AZ informs, referring to organization’s press service.

Health taxes are taxes levied on products that negatively affect public health, such as tobacco, alcohol, and sugary sodas.

WHO experts believe that such a measure will curb the development of chronic diseases and help states receive critical budget revenues. The initiative is called "3 to 35".
