July 1, Fineko/abc.az. As part of a new cargo transportation line to Europe through Azerbaijan, China has dispatched the first train consisting of 104 standard containers loaded with auto parts and mechanical equipment with total value of more than 15 million yuans (approx. $2.093 million).

ABC.AZ reports that according to the Beijing branch of the

Chinese Railway Construction Engineering Corporation (CRCEG), at the train departed yesterday from the station in Fangshan district in Beijing and will proceed to the Caspian port of Aktau (Kazakhstan) through Khorgos checkpoint in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Further, the goods will be delivered by sea to Alat port, and then by rail to Baku.

The route is realized on multimodal scheme “railway - sea - railway". The total length of the route exceeds 8,000 km, and the delivery time will be about 15 days. After arriving in Baku, some of the containers will be redirected to Georgia, Turkey, Serbia and other countries in the region.

According to Wang Chuanmen, General Director of the Fangshan International Land Port Management Company, the route is part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, Middle Corridor), which is the southern branch of global transport network China-Europe.

“The use of the multimodal principle makes it possible to significantly reduce delivery times compared to traditional maritime logistics and expand the geographical coverage, including the countries of the Caspian region, the Black Sea and Mediterranean basins, as well as Central, Eastern and Western Europe,” he stressed.

The CRCEG notes that the launch of the new route creates a convenient and efficient logistics channel for enterprises in Beijing and surrounding regions. This will reduce logistical costs, increase export potential, and strengthen China's trade and economic ties with Azerbaijan and other countries in the region.
