December 26, Fineko/abc.az. The number of 5G mobile subscribers worldwide increased by 163 million up to 2.1 billion in the third quarter, ABC.AZ informs, referring to Swedish telecommunications equipment producer Ericsson.

According to company's forecast, by the end of 2024, there will be about 2.27 billion of them. Thus, 5G subscribers will account for over a quarter of all mobile subscriptions in the world.

It is expected that in 2030 their number will reach 6.35 billion, which will account for 67% of the total volume of mobile subscribers. At that, 5G will account for about 80% of mobile traffic.

Currently, about 320 providers render 5G standard communication services in the world.

Ericsson also predicts introduction of 6G standard in 2030.

The number of 4G subscribers decreased by 69 million in the 3rd quarter, below 5.1 billion.
