December 17, Fineko/abc.az. The gold reserve of the Central Bank of Syria has not decreased since 2011 and amounts to about 26 tons of gold with a total value of $2.2 billion, ABC.AZ reports with reference to news agency Reuters.

According to agency’s sources, the main repository of the Syrian Central Bank, in which looters could not penetrate, was inspected last week by representatives of the groups that seized power in Syria. At the same time, according to the agency's interlocutors, the Syrian Central Bank has extremely small amounts of cash. According to one of the sources, speech is about $200 million, another said that this figure could be "several hundred million". The reserves of the bank, stored in Syrian pounds, are estimated at about the same amount in terms of dollars.
