Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to start laying fiber-optic cable through Caspian bottom this year

July 25, Fineko/abc.az. Practical work on laying a Trans-Caspian fiber-optic communication line through the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is scheduled for this year.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel.

According to the diplomat, a contractor company is being selected.

"First we need to produce a cable, then deliver it to the Caspian Sea and lower it to the bottom. Most of the project will be completed this year and next year," the ambassador said.

According to the project, the length of the cable line will be 370 km through the bottom of the Caspian Sea. Telecom operators of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are investing more than $50.6 million (more than 23 billion tenge) in the project.
