June 5, Fineko/abc.az. By 2027, at the first stage of partnership with energy companies, Azerbaijan plans to implement new renewable energy projects with volume of about 2 gigawatts, which will increase the share of renewable energy in country's installed capacity to 33%.

ABC.AZ reports that Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said this during his speech at the Baku Energy Forum.

He noted that as part of the creation of a green energy zone in Eastern Zangezur, it is planned to lay the foundations of two more solar power plants together with BP and Nobel Energy.

"Shafag solar power plant with capacity of 240 MW will be a demonstration project for decarbonization of the oil & gas sector. The renewable energy generated at this power plant will be used to electrify one of the world's largest oil and gas terminals located in Sangachal. Also in April of this year, we announced the first auction for renewable energy sources for construction of a 100 MW solar power plant, the results of the auction will be announced during COP29," the minister added.

Shahbazov stressed that all these steps are being taken within the Year of Solidarity for a Green World announced by the President of Azerbaijan.
