May 30, Fineko/abc.az. Google invests $2 bn in Malaysia for creation of its first data center and cloud region Google Cloud in the country, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Alphabet division on Thursday.
This was the latest wave of expansion by global technology companies into Southeast Asia.
The government said the investment would advance Malaysia's digital ambitions, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and other advanced technologies would help local industry climb the global value chain.
With the young technocratic population of 670 million people, Southeast Asia has recently attracted a lot of interest and investments from tech giants including Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia and Apple.
Google said in a statement that the data center and cloud region will be located in business park Elmina Sime Darby Property in the central state of Selangor.
The data center will render such services as Search, Maps and Workspace, and will also help provide AI services, while the cloud center will offer services to local companies and government organizations, the statement says.
