Azerbaijan numbers 129 villages with population of less than 50 people

April 6, Fineko/abc.az. There are 129 villages in Azerbaijan with the population of less than 50 people.

ABC.AZ reports that according to published official information, among the 4,246 villages in Azerbaijan, 97 ones have the population of more than 5,000 people. Six of those villages are located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

In addition, there are 79 cities in Azerbaijan, and one of them has the population of less than 3,000 people. There is only 1 city (Baku) with the population of more than 500,000 people. In four cities, the population varies within 100,000–500,000 residents. In 67% or 53 cities, the population ranges from 10,000 to 50,000 people.

Of the 262 settlements existing in the country, only five have the population 50,000–100,000. The population of 167 settlements is less than 3,000 people.

Among the 63 districts located on the territory of Azerbaijan, the population of 29 districts exceeds 100,000 people.

The most densely populated area of the country is Khatayi district. According to the latest published official data, more than 290,000 people are living in this area. Binagadi district is in 2nd place – 267,000 people.

Among the districts located outside the capital Baku, the largest population is registered in Lankaran district. 232,000 people are living in this district. The area with the smallest population is Khizi district. 17,300 people are living in this district.
