MP: Minimum wage increase to cover 700,000 people

January 6, Fineko/abc.az. By the presidential decree signed these days, the minimum wage has been increased up to 345 manats and the minimum pension up to 280 manats. Growth of allowances and scholarships is also expected. The increments will be accrued from 1 January, ABC.AZ reports, quoting economist and MP Vugar Bayramov.

He said that the latest order is important from angle of strengthening the social protection of our citizens who need social security more:

"The State Budget will allocate AZN 450 million additionally to increase the minimum wage, which will cover 700,000 people. Taking into account the increase in the minimum pension, more than 800,000 of our citizens will be able to directly benefit from the increase in wages and pensions. This means that wages of all citizens receiving the minimum wage, regardless of which sector they work in, will grow. The increase will also affect the private sector. That is, not only in the public sector, but also in the private sector, starting this year, wages should be at least 345 manats."
