March 15, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is one of the countries that access the Internet through Russia. The restrictions imposed against Russia may extend to the Internet network. In this regard, the question arises: if appropriate sanctions are imposed against the Russian Federation, how will this affect Azerbaijan?
ABC.AZ reports that Advisor to the Minister of Digital Development & Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Bayramov commented on this issue on Xəzər TV.
According to him, sanctions against Russia also affect the sphere of information technology. This, in turn, increases the risks for the Internet.
The adviser also spoke about the latest situation with the Internet provision of Azerbaijan: "The Internet highways to our country go in three directions. The northern direction is through the territory of Russia, the southern direction is through Iran and Turkey, and the western direction is through Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Germany. Each of them connects our country with the European Internet backbone.
After the invasion of Ukraine, many countries and international organizations imposed numerous sanctions against Russia. This may include disabling the Internet. Therefore, it is inevitable that in countries that access the main line of the Internet through this state, there will be problems with Internet provision.
