September 14, Fineko/abc.az. Latvia’s national carrier AirBaltic has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States to restructure its debt obligations. The airline secured $350 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing commitment to maintain routine operations throughout the court-supervised process. The emergency filing arrived just a day before bondholders were set to vote on an alternative bridge financing proposal for €380 million in debt.

AirBaltic emphasized that passenger operations and commercial flights will continue uninterrupted, with all bookings and tickets remaining valid. The carrier, which is 88.4% state-owned and 10% held by Lufthansa AG, faced severe liquidity challenges for the 2026-2027 period following rising jet fuel costs and pre-existing financial pressures.
