August 17, Fineko/abc.az. Four of the 29 US states suing Meta (California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey) will appear as plaintiffs in an upcoming court hearing. Hearings for the remaining 25 states have been postponed to a later date.

The lawsuit in Oakland, California, is considered one of the largest legal actions against Meta regarding child safety on social media. The tech giant is accused of harming youth mental health, designing addictive platform features, and collecting data on children under 13 without parental consent.

State attorneys general are seeking up to $1.4 trillion in damages alongside structural changes to Facebook and Instagram operations. Legal experts note that a fine of this magnitude could potentially push the company toward insolvency.
