August 12, Fineko/abc.az. According to the 2026 Annual Review Report published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global aviation industry continues its growth in passenger and cargo transport.

The global aviation ecosystem contributes $4.1 trillion to the world economy and supports 86.5 million jobs globally. In 2026, the sector is projected to serve nearly 5.2 billion passengers, with air cargo volumes reaching 71.6 million tonnes. Products worth approximately $8 trillion are transported by air annually, supporting 3.9% of global GDP.

In 2025, passenger traffic grew by 5.7% year-on-year. Performing nearly 40 million flights annually, aviation remains the safest mode of transport. Core challenges facing the industry include geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, delayed aircraft deliveries, and the scale-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, which requires 500 million tonnes annually to meet the 2050 net-zero target.
