French Press Files Antitrust Complaint Against Google Over AI Summaries

August 11, Fineko/abc.az. The General Press Alliance (APIG), representing over 300 local and national French news outlets, has filed a complaint with the French competition authority over Google’s AI-generated search summaries.

APIG argues that these AI overviews answer queries directly on the main search results page, shifting user behavior and significantly reducing direct referral traffic to news websites.

Through this action, French publishers aim to safeguard their online visibility, retain readership, and protect advertising revenues amid the rapid rise of AI-powered search engines.
