Strait of Hormuz Could Reopen Soon, Says Iranian Foreign Minister

14:22 - 11.08.2026

August 11, Fineko/abc.az. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is in its "final stage." However, he reiterated that Tehran will not reopen the waterway unless the US fulfills specific demands.

The Minister noted that direct talks between the US and Iran are not taking place, with messages being exchanged via intermediaries.

The reopening also hinges on US financial compensation to Tehran. According to The Wall Street Journal, Iran's payment demands increase with every discussion, putting President Donald Trump in an unfavorable bargaining position.
