August 6, Fineko/abc.az. The US foreign trade deficit narrowed in June 2026 as imports registered their first broad-based decline since the start of the year.
According to the Commerce Department, the deficit in goods and services dropped 5.6% month-on-month to $73.3 billion. Imports decreased by 1.8%, while exports slipped by 0.9%.
Trade data has exhibited monthly volatility amid shifting tariff policies, supply chain disruptions caused by the war in the Middle East, and heavy investment in artificial intelligence. The Trump administration is pursuing alternative avenues to enforce import tariffs following the Supreme Court's decision to strike down previous duties in Q1. Meanwhile, trade deficits with key partners—including Mexico, Canada, China, and Vietnam—widened during the month amid ongoing renegotiations of regional trade frameworks.
