The United States has initiated the payout process for approximately $100 billion in tax and duty refunds following a Supreme Court ruling that declared tariffs imposed under the Trump administration unlawful. Files for payment clearance have been submitted to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

According to updates provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to the U.S. Court of International Trade, importers and customs brokers submitted 252,496 claims into the system as of July 31. The potential and approved refund total submitted for processing has reached $128.68 billion.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on February 20 that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), utilized by Donald Trump to institute the tariffs, did not grant executive authority to impose custom duties. The verdict prompted thousands of businesses to file claims for duty recovery, leading CBP to launch a dedicated refund calculation mechanism in April.
