July 27, Fineko/abc.az. Germany is currently paying five times more for natural gas imports than it did in 2020 following the shift away from Russian pipeline supplies.

According to data reported by Berliner Zeitung, while border gas prices averaged around 12 euros per MWh in 2020, European wholesale market benchmark prices currently exceed 60 euros per MWh.

Norway has emerged as Germany's primary natural gas supplier, accounting for roughly 44% of total imports. The remainder is supplied by the Netherlands (24%), Belgium (21%), and domestic LNG import terminals (just over 10%).

Industry analysts highlight that with Norwegian pipelines operating at near-maximum capacity, Germany is unlikely to secure significantly cheaper alternative sources in the short term.
